Television Rating Point, renowned by the more popular acronym TRP is a tool that measures which programmes are viewed the most. Loosely speaking, the revenue generated by a show is directly proportional to its TRP. I won’t dive any further into its technicalities. This list has largely been compiled in association with data garnered from BARC (Broadcast and Audience Research), an institution devised a couple of years ago, to keep track of the TRPs of shows.
After a thorough inspection of the statistics, while maintaining a balance between soap operas and reality shows, these are the top 10 shows that are viewed by the majority of the gigantic 153 million television audiences of India.
10. Jodha Akbar –Zee TV/ Zee Anmol

9. Comedy Nights Bachao – Colors TV
It is a comedy reality show with similar format as ‘Comedy Circus’ and the same production team members. Presented by Krishna Abhishek and Bharti Singh, it filled the airtime vacancy that was created after ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ stopped broadcasting on Colors TV. Alike its predecessor show of similar genre, this show has been keeping up well with the audiences, and that is reflected in the BARC TRPs data, which it publishes every week.

Had this list been published a couple of years ago, this soap opera would have been the front runner in terms of TRP.
